  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (6 oz each)

– 1/4 cup hoisin sauce for that signature sweet and savory glaze

– 2 tablespoons soy sauce adds umami depth to balance the sweetness

– 1 tablespoon rice vinegar brings a touch of acidity to brighten the flavors

– 2 teaspoons peeled and finely minced fresh ginger infuses a warm, zesty kick

– 1 1/2 teaspoons finely minced garlic provides aromatic and hearty notes

– 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil delivers a rich, nutty aroma

– 3/4 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice Powder adds a complex, spicy warmth

– Salt and/or honey to taste for final seasoning adjustments to perfect the flavor

– Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish to top it off with a fresh, crunchy finish

Instructions

1-Preheat your grill: Preheat your grill to about 400°F (204°C) and pound those chicken breasts to an even thickness for even cooking.

2-First Steps: Prep and Marinade: Clean and pat dry the chicken breasts to remove any excess moisture. In a bowl, combine the 1/4 cup hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 2 teaspoons minced ginger, 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic, 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil, and 3/4 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice Powder. Divide the sauce into two portions as you’ll use one for brushing during grilling.

3-Step 1: Marinate the chicken in half of the sauce for at least 30 minutes to let those flavors soak in.

4-Step 2: Brush the grill grates with oil to prevent sticking and ensure a perfect sear.

5-Grilling and Finishing: Once the grill is hot, place the chicken on it and cook for 4 minutes. Then, brush with half of the remaining sauce and grill for another 3 minutes. Finally, add the last of the sauce and cook for 1 more minute until the internal temperature hits 165°F (74°C). Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving it garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
