๐Ÿฅ Homemade Cruffins Recipe for Flaky, Buttery Breakfast Treats combines the best of croissants and muffins, delivering delightfully flaky and tender layers.
๐Ÿฏ These cruffins coated with cinnamon sugar make a perfect indulgent breakfast or snack with optional fillings for extra flavor.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 38 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cruffins

Ingredients

– 1 cup whole milk (warmed to about 110ยฐF)

– 2 1/4 teaspoons instant or active dry yeast

– 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

– 3 tablespoons unsalted or salted butter (cut into pieces)

– 3 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 1/4 teaspoons salt

– 1 cup salted butter (slightly softened)

– 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

– 3/4 cup granulated sugar

– 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

– Optional fillings such as Nutella, jam, apple pie filling, or cream cheese (quantities vary based on preference)

Instructions

First Step: Prepare your ingredients by measuring all components accurately and allowing the butter to soften; this step streamlines dough preparation.

Second Step: Activate the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar, waiting 5-10 minutes until frothy to ensure proper fermentation.

Third Step: Mix flour, sugar, and salt, then incorporate the yeast mixture to form a soft dough. Knead gently for 8-10 minutes until smooth.

Fourth Step: Roll out the dough and layer it with softened butter, folding multiple times to create flaky layers. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

Fifth Step: Cut the dough into squares, then roll and place into muffin tins, allowing for expansion. After laminations, divide the dough into three portions, roll each to 8ร—12 inches following a 5-minute rest, then sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar.

Sixth Step: Cut into 1-inch strips, stack them in groups of three, roll into spirals, and place into a greased muffin pan to form 12 cruffins. Let the shaped cruffins rise for 1 hour until puffy.

Seventh Step: Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Bake the cruffins for 25 28 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 200ยฐF.

Final Step: Remove from the oven, cool slightly, roll the cruffins in the remaining cinnamon sugar, and fill with desired fillings using a piping bag if preferred.
